Toddlers
(18 months – 3 years)

Environment

Our toddler area offers a warm, caring, fun environment for your toddlers to spread their wings and explore. Your toddler will just love the space and resources we provide for learning and developing while having fun with their peers. We support childhood learning with a curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and supportive of all children during this age of discovery and wonder.

Your little adventurer will experiment with all the messy stuff such as painting, playdough, water and sand play, finger paint and clay. Toddlers also love to climb and test their new found large motor stills. We have a range of equipment such as ladders, boxes and planks just the right size for them.

We have a separate sleep room for our toddlers to have a peaceful, restful nap. Each child has their own bed and linen that is laundered at least weekly. If they have their own special cuddly, blanket, toy etc we encourage you to bring this with them. At least one staff member will be in the sleep room while putting children to sleep and the sleep room is physically monitored every five minutes.

Transition

For new children, we encourage 3 settling visits, approximately 2 weeks before your child’s start date to ensure a smooth and settled transition for both you and your child.  Children transitioning from our nursery room have regular accompanied visits to get familiar with their new environment and meet their new friends, ensuring this is a positive step in their learning journey. Our Transition Policy is available by asking a member of the team.

Our sister centre, Newbees Preschool located at 9 Lanark Road in Kerikeri it is in walking distance of New Beginnings. Newbees cater for children from 3-5 years old. Children and thoughtfully transitioned between the two centres. We are always happy to work with you on an approach that will work best for you and your child, with your child’s wellbeing being the most important part to this new journey.

Nutrition

Age appropriate, well-balanced meals are prepared by our in-house chef, to encourage children to try new foods with different tastes and textures. Visit our Nutrition page to find out more and see an example menu.

Communication

As well as daily face-to-face catch ups about your child’s day at drop off and pick up time, we use Storypark to share photos, videos and audio of your child’s development so you never miss out on those special moments.  Storypark also offer a handy mobile app so can have updates right to your smartphone.
